Melanie & Greg
Members
Greg grew up in Kirkland, Washington, where he enjoyed bicycling, studying violin, climbing mountains, reading science fiction, and spending time as an exchange student in Germany. Melanie grew up in Bellingham, surrounded by extended family, neighbors, and a strong sense of community. Her early years were filled with reading, music, gardening, theater, and exploring the woods around Sehome Hill. She has always been interested in social justice and environmental issues.
Greg and Melanie met through theater at the University of Washington. Greg went on to learn cabinetmaking and design and build exhibits, eventually becoming a partner in a company specializing in kinetic architecture systems. Melanie worked in education and social services, including teaching, coordinating adult education and employment programs, and editing manuscripts. Both have been involved in caring for their aging parents.
Now retired, Greg enjoys drawing, cooking, music, landscape photography, art shows, and learning about people and new ideas. Melanie loves reading, folk music, theater, dance, art, walking, and enjoying the natural world. Together, they have a son and daughter-in-law and have traveled throughout Europe and the United States. They look forward to pursuing their interests, sharing ideas, and collaborating with others in the intentional cohousing community at Sunnyside Village.
